Hi Sandy-  Hinesburg does not require paving of private roads during the subdivision review process.  We are still fairly rural, and I believe that the feeling is that having random paved roads out in rural areas would be out of place. This doesn't mean they won't allow it, but simply that they don't repuire it.  Also, the town has a policy that they will not take over any private roads, so therefore they don't have an economic stake in them being paved.  They do have to meet our town road standards for width, grade and construction specifications.  Hope this helps.  Missy

Subject: requirements for paving Class III roads

I am seeking information from communities that allow gravel class III roads within a proposed
subdivision.

St Johnsbury requires paving even if the Town Road leading up to the subdivision is gravel.  I am looking for examples of how other communities with gravel roads  handle this issue.

Thank you for your help.
