Up on the lake yesterday censusing terns and came across a ruddy turnstone on Popasquash Island and a semipalmated sandpiper on Rock Island. There were also a number (10-20) of adult plumaged Bonapartes Gulls just south of Butler Island. Common Tern numbers were still good with 60 or so on Popasquash and another 30+ on Rock. Lots of youngsters mixed in with the adults and it looks like this will be the best reproductive year since 2000. We are hoping for 80+ fledglings.
