If you were only going to have one set of skis, the trekkers could be
useful, but as everyone else has said you will be happier with a dedicated
AT set-up in the long run (if you can swing it).  Anyway to answer your
question as I see it:

Pro's - They will get you off piste
        1 set of skis for all your turns
        adjusted properly they work fine
        extra weight is a good work-out

Con's - extra gear to store in the pack and extra weight
        Alpine boots are not real comfortable to skin in(that would true
for AT bindings as well)
        Alpine boots, bindings and trekkers are pretty heavy
        no real safe way to ski small downhills on rolling terrain with-out
removing the trekkers
