After reviewing the Special Education Funding Plan
several times, I think references to FASD should not be
included. We are showing the cost containment part of the plan and
at the same time asking for the legislature to fund an awareness program.
I don't think this would be looked upon favorably by the
legislature. Also, the legislature is looking for hard
cost containment and at this time I do not believe we can put a dollar
amount on how much a FASD awareness program would save in special education
costs.
I think that a program for awareness about
FASD is a good idea and should be pursued outside of this
document.
