Assistant Director, Affiliated Libraries
The Ehrman Medical Library, of New York University Medical Center , seeks
an organized, service-oriented, experienced health sciences librarian for
the position of Assistant Director, Affiliated Libraries. The Assistant
Director, Affiliated Libraries will join the Public Services department in
the provision of high-quality information and library services to the
faculty, students and staff of the affiliated libraries of Bellevue,
Hospital for Joint Diseases, New York University Downtown Hospital and the
department of Environmental Medicine Library, as well as to Ehrman Medical
Library, and the Library's constituencies in the Medical Center. The
Assistant Director, Affiliated Libraries will take the lead role in
coordinating the work of the Library Managers and in concert with the
Associate Director for Public Services and the Director, Ehrman Medical
Library, set the direction and vision for the provision of distributed
library services to the affiliated libraries and their users. This is a
tenure track faculty position.

Responsibilities:

Supervise 4 FTE Library Managers at affiliated hospital and departmental
libraries.
Participate in setting the planned goals and visions of the Ehrman Medical
Library.
Look for opportunities to develop information partnership programs with
clinical faculty and staff in each setting, through cooperative efforts,
grant and foundation funding.
Facilitate communication and support from Ehrman Medical Library to the
affiliated libraries, including but not limited to Document Delivery,
Collection Services, Circulation, Systems and Reference and Research
Support.
Facilitate cooperative collection development and planning between Ehrman
Medical Library and the affiliated libraries.
Cultivate and develop an integrated library outreach program for Bellevue
library users
Coordinate education and outreach services with Ehrman Medical Library
faculty.
Provide budget and grant application oversight.
Support and encourage the professional development of the Library
Managers.
Teach both curricular and non-curricular classes in information
management, presentations, searching and research skills in biomedicine
and allied health.
Participate in staffing the Information Desk at the Ehrman Medical Library.
Engage in research and service to meet requirements for University
promotion and tenure.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate will possess an MLS from an ALA-accredited school,
have 3-5 years library experience, including experience building and
maintaining cooperative work environments, teaching and biomedical
reference. Ability to search the biomedical literature following evidence
based methodology, as well as using sophisticated search techniques to
provide high quality search results. Excellent communication and
interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team
environment. Technical skills include knowledge of, and demonstrable skill
in the use of MEDLINE, Web of Science, drug databases and full-text
searching.

Salary:
$60,000. Excellent benefits. This is a tenure-track position reporting to
the Associate Director for Public Services.

New York University Medical Center is located in mid-Manhattan and is
affiliated with Bellevue Hospital , the Manhattan VA , Hospital for Joint
Disease and NYU Downtown Hospitals and is part of the Mt. Sinai-NYU Health
System.
