My Dad and Uncle owned dairy farms in Craftsbury Vt. My cousin now runs my uncle's farm and my brother grows Christmas trees and make Maple Syrup on my dad's farm. I moved to Connecticut 20 years ago to marry my husband. He is retiring in June of 05 and we have bought 62 acres in Troy, Vt. I want to get back to farming. I hope to have a market farm. We are having the driveway put in now and hope to be able to start farming in the spring. I was raised in the time when the sons helped in the barn and the girls cooked and cleaned hence my lack of knowledge . I do have a love for the land and the farming way of life and a willingness to learn. I am going to need all the help I can get. Info on tractors, greenhouses, what grows best in the cold climate of Troy and how to get started on very little money. Once we pay for our land and build a place to live that takes our cash plus some. I am a bookkeeper by trade but hope not to have to take on clients in Vermont. We just sold our house in Connecticut. We have an Aug. 25th closing. Our original plan was to rent here until March or April then I and our 5 dogs would move to Vermont with my husband following in June. We are having a problem finding a rent that will take our 5 Flat Coated Retrievers so I might be coming to Vt. in Sept. Any help you can offer would be appreciated.
