Today's Rutland County Audubon "Birding by Canoe"
trip to Richville Pond in Shoreham today yielded
35 species.

Highlights of the trip included 5 common moorhen
(seen and heard), 3 green heron, 3 great blue
heron, a female mallard with young, 1 red-tailed
hawk, 1 marsh wren, 7 belted kingfisher, 18
eastern kingbird, 2 willow flycatchers and 2
savannah sparrows. A large number of tree
swallows were seen throughout the day including a
single tree with over 75 in it.

An American kestrel was seen along the road to
the pond.

Later in the day 2 northern harriers were seen
over fields in Orwell. At East Creek Wildlife
Management Area 3 wood duck, 107 Canada geese, 9
killdeer, 2 marsh wrens and 2 eastern meadowlark
were observed.
