While your sentiment is perfectly accurate, the facts say otherwise.

The AL didn't exist until 1901, when the Yankees were actually known as
the Baltimore Orioles. After that they moved to N.Y. and became the
Highlanders. They didn't become the Yankees until 1913, IIRC.

The NL didn't exist until 1876, so whoever was gouging the fans for 50
cents a ticket back in 1858 were in whatever league predated the NL.
Undoubtedly, though, they were ancestors of current Yankees management,
in spirit if not in blood.
