As many of you know, a number of building projects broke ground on the UVM
campus over the summer. While every attempt will be made to minimize
disruption, some inconvenience is bound to occur.

For updates on all construction projects, and the impact they'll have on
pedestrians and motor vehicles, see this URL on the Architectural &
Engineering Services site: The site will be
updated on a weekly basis. (For details on all current and planned
projects, go to the A&E homepage at

Here's a brief overview of the three major projects currently under

University Heights Student Residential Learning Complex -- through
September 2006.
--Project: Two 400-bed residential complexes. The first half of the North
Complex (200 beds) will be completed by the fall of 2005, with the second
to be completed by January 2006. The South Complex will be completed by
August 2006.

--Impact: The entire University Heights construction site is fenced in.
This will result in the closure of the Living/Learning student parking lot
and the closure of the L/L roadway, leading from the Patrick Gym to L/L,
to all but the shuttle and emergency vehicles. Drop-off/parking for the
day-care center will remain available. For parking at 601 Main Street,
please enter via Main Street. The Harris/Millis and MAT parking lots can
be accessed through Spear Street.

Gutterson Parking Garage -- through January 2005
--Project: The three-tiered, brick faade structure will add 550 spaces to
the current surface lot.

--Impact: The "horseshoe" parking lot between Gutterson and Patrick and
the east roadway at PFG are open for parking with vehicular flow to and
from these areas limited to southbound traffic only, from the north
roadway. Access will be limited to emergency vehicles and scheduled,
coordinated deliveries that require loading dock access. It should be
assumed that the loading dock will not be accessible for tractor-trailer
trucks. Vehicles entering the campus from Spear Street may experience
minor delays due to construction activity. Please use alternate routes if

Steam-Line Replacement -- through June 2005
--Project: An upgrade of the current campus steam-line that will bring new
lines to the new residence halls at University Heights.

--Impact: Pedestrian walkways between Living/Learning and
Marsh/Austin/Tupper will be disrupted. The steam-line will progress
southward in front of Harris/Millis in October-November. Pedestrians
should exercise caution when walking near or around the disrupted area.
