Vermont Wins Dartmouth Winter Carnival
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont used a dominant performance in the men’s and women’s slalom races at Dartmouth Skiway Saturday to win the Dartmouth Winter Carnival.
Vermont trailed Dartmouth by 12 points heading into the slalom, and the Catamounts went 1-2-3-5 in the women’s event, with junior standout Jamie Kingsbury (Waitsfield, Vt.) winning, Jilyne McDonald (Bellevue, Wash.) finishing second, Ashley Spina (Guildhall, Vt.) taking third and Hilary McCloy (Bethel, Maine) finishing fifth.
In the men’s slalom, Vermont’s Johnny Davidson (Ottawa, Ont.) finished in a dead heat for the top spot with Dartmouth’s Dave Chodounsky to give Vermont more than enough points to win the carnival, the third win for the Catamounts in five EISA events.
In the 3-by-5-kilometer mixed relay at Trapp Family Lodge, the Vermont team of Lowell Bailey (Lake Placid, N.Y.), Ethan Foster (Weston, Vt.), Carina Hamel (Southampton, Mass.) and Kate Crawford (Hawley, Mass.) finished second to Dartmouth.
