Wildlife Observations: Great Blue Herons:  50+ nests were occupied on the
east tip of Shad Island.  15+ nest were occupied on Metcalf Island.
Osprey:  The following nests were occupied by one or two osprey:  Both
tripods on Metcalf Island, telephone pole platform on Long Marsh, old metal
brood count stand Cranberry Pool, dead tree platform near dike, and Goose
Bay tree.
Double-crested Cormorants: 16 cormorants were perching on snags at the
mouth of Dead Creek.  There were no cormorants observed near the heron
rookery.
Waterfowl:  small flocks of 10 to 15 observed in various open areas.
Goldeneyes, Common Mergansers, Black Ducks, Wood Ducks and Mallards were
most common.  About 100 Canada Geese are using the Cranberry Pool.
Other: 2 Red-tailed Hawks were observed on the area.  Robert A. Zelley
