So my question:  Can any of you think offhand of links online, or in common journals (which a university would typically have online subscriptions to) that also illustrate science that has contradicted contemporary social values -- mechanistic atomism, primacy of the individual, sanctity of the nuclear family, glories of capitalism, etc. -- but is unarguably good science?

The problem is that any science that contradicts contemporary social values is, ipso facto, controversial,so while it may be good science, it won't be "unarguably good science" until the values change.
