Cheese Recipe Contest at Coolidge Historic Site
PLYMOUTH NOTCH, Vt. - The Vermont Division for Historic Preservation
is
seeking entries for the cheese recipe contest that will be held at
the
President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site on Saturday, September
10.
The contest is part of the Plymouth Cheese & Harvest Festival - an
annual
event that celebrates the bounty of the harvest season with special
emphasis
on the award-winning world of Vermont made cheese.
Plymouth's unique granular curd cheese is made
exclusively at the
Plymouth Cheese Factory and has been a popular ingredient in local
family
recipes since the factory opened in 1890. John Coolidge, son of
the
President, sold the factory to the State of Vermont in 1998; the factory
now
operates under the management of "Frog City
Cheese."
Contestants are asked to bring their entry to the
cheese factory on
September 10 between 10:00 and 11:30 a.m. A hand-printed or typed
copy of
the recipe should accompany the actual culinary creation. Please
attach
your name, address, and telephone number on separate sheet of
paper. All
recipes must use PLYMOUTH CHEESE. Contestants may submit two
different
recipes for consideration. Only original (or old family) recipes
will be
eligible. Recipes will be judged on originality, presentation, and
taste!
A panel of three distinguished judges will
announce the winners at 1:00
p.m. as part of the festival celebration. Prizes are provided
courtesy of
Frog City Cheese and the President Calvin Coolidge State Historic
Site:
First Place: Wheel of Plymouth Cheese, Second Place: Frog City Cheese

The Plymouth Cheese Recipe Contest is
co-sponsored by Frog City Cheese
& the Vermont Division for Historic Preservation. Other
activities during
the Plymouth Cheese & Harvest Festival, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.,
include
fiddler Adam Boyce's "Sprightly Steps" presentation at 11:00
(sponsored by
the Vermont Humanities Council), cheese sampling by members of the
Vermont
Cheese Council, historic farm and craft demonstrations, wagon rides,
and
more.
