A Mississippi hospital overwhelmed with patients in the wake of Hurricane
Katrina is asking for volunteers from the radiologic technologist community to
help deal with the workload.

Ocean Springs Hospital on Mississippi's Gulf Coast was just 18 miles from the
eye of the hurricane when it landed in the early morning hours of August 29.
The storm produced winds of 125-133 miles per hour and knocked out power to
the hospital for a week.

It also produced scenes of devastation that have become all too familiar in
recent days. Four of the region's hospitals were put out of commission by the
hurricane, leaving the remaining ones, like Ocean Springs Hospital, to deal
with the aftermath.

The toll has put severe strains on the facility's healthcare staff, nearly
all of whom have their own losses to deal with. The hospital is calling on
volunteers, particularly ultrasound and nuclear medicine technologists, to help
ease the burden.
