We are using MSSharepoint as a document management tool here at VI. We were
able to acquire it as a non-profit organization from www.techsoup.org for a
few hundred dollars; on the open market it's quite costly. Techsoup is a
distributor for donated products to 501(c)(3) non-profits; unfortunately,
they state on their site that the Microsoft products are not available to
K-12 schools. As far as complexity, it can be quite complex if you choose to
utilize all of its features, mostly it's an out of the box customizable
portal. Our main purpose is for document management/file sharing. You might
