Glenn, I understand that this would have been a great opportunity if we currently or recently had a few kids in custody. At this time we do not really have anyone that has been with us for a long amount of time to be able to express how our services have assisted them. Plus, there really was not a lot of response when I attempted to make this sound like it was a great opportunity. I tried....... Maybe next forum we will be able to attend and have kids available... Governor Douglas is hosting a Youth Forum on Saturday, December 10th, from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm at the Statehouse to hear from youth how the state can best assure that teens in DCF custody can become successful adults! The Governor is inviting: * Youth in DCF custody, ages 15-19. * Recent "graduates" of DCF custody, up to age 25.* (*This could be an important arena for JOBS youth who are in DCF or recent graduates of DCF to talk about the importance of JOBS Services) The Governor's goals are: * To hear the voices of older youth in foster care, and those who have actually transitioned to adulthood, what they need to succeed as adults. * To put this information together with information from foster parents, social workers, and others to develop an overall approach to this issue. If you know of youth who are interested please contact the DCF Resource Coordinator in your area to coordinate transportation. Lunch is included!! I've attached a Flyer with an agenda for the event. Please let me know if I can answer any questions and I would also be interested in knowing how many JOBS Youth were able to attend.
