My medical director has kindly accepted a symbolic stipend because I'm a start up and he has not been overly taxed by the role has has agreed to take on.  I anticipate that in the future he will be getting a raise.

As medical director, I believe there is added responsibility - If they are committed to the lab and the staff.  The medical director approves the reading schedule, fills gaps in the reading schedule, takes calls from the staff throughout the day/night if a patient's doc doesn't return calls for critical test results, facilitates QA meetings for medical and technical staff, inputs capital purchase decisions, inputs staff evaluations and development, etc.  All in addition to their own reading responsibilities and practice.
