The “guidelines” for stroke do
not call for duplex of the veins or the carotid. I noticed this from the first onset
of theses “stroke teams” 10 yrs ago.
The guidelines call for a CT to r/o bleed
and then if under 3 hrs-tpa can be given.
The venous prophylaxis is only TED/SED.
There was no talk about Carotid
scans-these are usually order 1-2 days after. Venous duplex may or may be
ordered but is usually ordered by the resp doc or hospitalist. The neurologist
and the interventional radiologists are handling a lot of the strokes now-with
Tpa infusion by cath placement.
Problem is the RN think DVT is the culprit
or give that impression to everyone that listened to her.—Not Good.
