And, let’s put it in perspective.
70” is actually more of a curse than a gift.
Barry, my brother-in-law, is a fanatic
Mammoth skier. He has a season pass, and spends most weekends there.
In 2002, he took the winter off to volunteer in at the Olympics and spend the
remainder of the season being a ski bum. Have I established his bona
fides?
Earlier this year, there was 80+”
storm at Mammoth, and Barry was there. He recounts the story as one of
amazing tantalization, and NO skiing. Not only was the avalanche danger
beyond high, and into the death-wish category, but the depth of the snow made
skiing impossible. While doing avy control, work a 20-year veteran patroller
happened to fall; he said it took him over two hours to get his skis back under
him, and get underway. And, no one other than patrol was allowed on the
mountain for days.
So, be careful what you wish for…

I think this statement needs to be qualified by a geographic reference.

FWIW, my parents broke the no-driving rule during the Blizzard of '78 to drive
to their own wedding. Clearly their priorities were screwed up..
