Look at John Gardner's novel, October Light.  He uses that term, or
something like it.  It's a long novel and I cannot find the pages where he
uses the phrase.  I'll keep looking.

Has anyone on this list heard the phrase presented by the writer below?  Is
it accurate?

Subject: question regarding vermont seasons

My grandfather used to say there were three seasons in Vermont, and I can't
recall the exact words. Are they "the locking up," "the unlocking," and
"summer?" We are having a family debate and quandry about this.
Hope you know to what I am referring, and can help.
