Good afternoon, gifted and knowledgeable colleagues, During the past several months, perhaps even a half year, I have had intermittent problems printing from PubMed when using PubMed inside IE 6.0.29. A small portion of the text (probably .5 cm or less) on the right-hand side of the page is cut off by the page margin. I've experienced the printing problem myself on several different computers and have received complaints from patrons using other computers on campus. When I've seen the problem, it occurs whether I'm printing in landscape or portrait orientation and occurs whether I'm printing directly from the PubMed search result webpage or from the pop-up window that is opened by selecting "Printer" from the "Send to" menu. The problem is not fixed by using print preferences to select "scale to fit." I should emphasize that this is an intermittent problem. I can have the printing problem consistently for 2 hours and then come back to PubMed later to find that the problem has disappeared. I've never had this problem when using PubMed from within Firefox, but I've only started using Firefox recently in an attempt to bypass the PubMed printing problem. Unfortunately, Firefox doesn't work with all the electronic resources provided by our Library. Our institution is currently using IE 6 and doesn't plan to switch to IE 7 in the near future (ITS on our campus has just about banned switching to IE 7). I've already consulted our Library's systems department and we've tried everything that the head of that department could think of. I know of ways to work around the problem (e-mail results and print from the e-mail, save results in a My NCBI collection and then print the collection from within Firefox, only use PubMed in Firefox), but would like a more certain solution to the problem for those of our users who are committed to IE. I've just written to NLM customer service about the problem, but I thought I should try mining the wealth of knowledge available through this listserv also. Have you experienced the problem described and found a reliable solution? If so, I would greatly appreciate hearing about the solution! If you write to me at personally, I will be happy to summarize for the list. Thanks for any help, Cindy Cindy Schmidt, M.D., M.L.S.
