I think it's a grand conspiracy by the American College of Orthopaedic surgeons.

When I worked in ski shops, we were supposed to confiscate any Markers with
the race stock "black springs". Heard a story where a guy's bindings were going
to be confiscated until they noticed that he had painted his red springs black.
