Making More
of Your Backyard Forests, Saturday , September 29, 2007, Montpelier High
School
Do you have a small woodlot, or forested
area?
Do you want to learn more about it?
Are you interested in exploring stewardship of your backyard forest?
Then this workshop is for you!
This one-day workshop will begin at Montpelier High School with an
opening session that will place your property in the larger landscape.
Next, you will learn to discover what types of forest ecosystems may
exist on your property. We will wrap up the morning sessions
by exploring examples of what some landowners are
doing to manage their small piece of forestland. Lunch and afternoon
field sessions will take place at Hubbard Park, where we will explore a
wide variety of topics, including, invasive species,
natural communities, tree identification, wildlife habitat,
building recreational trails and choosing which trees to keep and
cut.
Come learn about your forest and the values it is capable of providing,
as well as gain access to resources and tools for making
decisions about management.
