Fellow Students,
Happy Monday! We hope your first day of classes was smooth, painless,
and maybe even a little bit exciting. Welcome back to all returning
students. Welcome and congratulations on making it this far to the new
students. If you were in attendance at Convocation, the
Twilight Induction Ceremony, and/or the Green Carpet Premiere of the
Davis Center, we hope your night was as fun and inspiring as ours!
What a way to kick off the year!
For those of you unfamiliar with these weekly presidential messages,
they give us the great pleasure of informing you about some exciting
opportunities to have a good time, get involved, and make your voice
heard as the year progresses. The Student Government Association
Senate (made up of 40 senators, the treasurer, the vice president, and
president) meets every Tuesday night beginning September 4. Once
meetings commence, we will send out all of the legislation that is
proposed (a week before it is voted on) to give you an opportunity to
share your feedback. So stay in touch and read on!

Front Porch Forum: Connecting Students and Their Neighbors
Want to feel like part of your neighborhood? Join Front Porch Forum
and read what your neighbors are talking about. This free
community-building service hosts neighborhood forums across all of
Chittenden County. Some of the most successful and vibrant ones are in
the Old North End, Hill Section, and other parts of Burlington where
many UVM off-campus students live. Recent postings include: free desk
and lamp, mechanic recommendation, block party date, city councilor
response, babysitter needed, apartment
break-in report, and more. More than 15% of Burlington subscribed in
the first six
months of this local innovation. The service is free and won't
overfill your inbox. It's

Curious About Parking in Residential Areas?
With the new school year starting, Burlington Police would like to
take this opportunity to explain to the students of UVM the resident
parking program and how to get their permits to park on the resident
parking designated streets.
Burlington City Ordinance 27 No Parking except with resident parking
permit: "No person shall park any vehicle except vehicles with a valid
residential street sticker or a valid guest parking card, or clearly
identifiable service or deliver vehicles on any street designated as
residential parking."
Proof of Residency: For students, proof of residency shall include a
valid current student identification card, a valid driver's license,
vehicle registration from Vermont or another state, and proof of
residency on the designated street.
Documents needed for proof:
-Student Identification card (because cards do not have an
expiration date, a copy of current class schedule is required).
-Copy of current lease with student name on lease. Address must be on
the resident parking street you are requesting a permit for.
-Student Driver's License
-Registration of Vehicle
Each vehicle will receive one (1)bumper sticker indicating vehicle is
registered in the program. Each apartment or home will receive two (2)
guest cards which must be shared by all in the apartment or home.
Guest parking cards are only for use by persons visiting a residence.
Guest cards cannot be replaced if lost or misplaced. Permits cannot be
issued to any registration which has outstanding City of Burlington
parking tickets.
The Parking Enforcement office is located at Burlington Police
Department, One North Avenue. Normal office hours are Mon-Fri 7:30 AM
to 4:30 PM. To assist the new students the office will remain open
Wednesday August 29, 2007 until 7:00 PM

STUDENT TICKET POLICY FOR ATHLETIC EVENTS
MEN'S & WOMEN'S SOCCER: Students need to show their valid UVM ID at
the gate to gain FREE admission to games.
WOMEN'S HOCKEY: Students need to show their valid UVM ID at the
Gutterson Box Office on game day to gain FREE admission to games.
MEN'S HOCKEY, MEN'S &WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: FREE student tickets to UVM
men's hockey, men's and women's basketball games will be available at
the Patrick Gym ticket office starting on Monday of the week of the
game at 9:00am. Tickets will be available until Wednesday at 5:00pm or
until they are sold out. Students will be able to get their FREE
ticket (1 per student per game for that week) on Monday, Tuesday or
Wednesday (depending on availability) when they show their valid UVM
ID. Any tickets not picked up by students will go on sale to the
general public starting Thursday at 9:00am. As long as any tickets
remain to a game, students will be allowed to pick up a ticket with
their valid UVM ID through game time.
*STUDENTS MUST SHOW THEIR VALID UVM ID AND FREE STUDENT TICKET AT
THE DOOR TO GAIN ENTRANCE TO THE GAME.
*HOCKEY: STUDENTS SHOULD USE THE DESIGNATED STUDENT ENTRANCE AND
SEATING AREA SECTIONS 9, 10, 11, 12
*BASKETBALL: STUDENTS SHOULD USE THE DESIGNATED STUDENT ENTRANCE AND
SEATING AREA SECTION 10 OR THE UPPER HALF OF SECTION 8
*Student ID's will be checked when tickets are picked up and again at
the door.*
**Students that do not bring their ID to the game will not be admitted
to the facility.**

American Red Cross: Develops Inclusive Policy Recommendation,
Holding a Blood Drive
Please see the attached stance of the New England American Red Cross
supporting the position that the current lifetime deferral for men who
have had sex with other men is unwarranted and recommends that the
deferral criteria be modified. This displays the NEARC commitment to a
change in the national policy, however it will not go into effect
without a revised decision from the Food and Drug Administration.
