THe hawkwatching season has started! The daily count from Putney Mountain is posted on http://hawkcount.org/month_summary.php?rsite=506 Merlins, Kestrals, Ospreys, Bald Eagles, Northern Harriers and many other raptors have already been seen up on the mountain. The total number of hawks seen isn't very impressive yet, but the season has just started. It's just going to get better! I encourage you to try and get up the mountain to see the impressive raptor migration. There are official hawkwatchers up on Putney Mountain 7 days a week, so just hike up and look for people sitting in comfortable lawn chairs with binoculars around their neck. Hope to see you on the mountain sometime soon! You can read more about the Putney mountain hawkwatch in Pfeiffer and Murin's bird finding guide to Vermont. Good birding.
