Water pipit, Anthus spinoletta, is a Eurasian species and has not been recorded, so far as I am aware, in the US. The closests it gets is the UK and China. Our pipit is known, depending on the author, as American or buff-bellied pipit, Anthus rubescens. Until 1989 the water and buff-bellied (and the European rock pipit) were lumped as one species. They now are split into three. Hector Galbraith PhD Galbraith Environmental Sciences LLC 837 Camp Arden Rd., Dummerston, VT05301 802 258 4836 (phone)
