Joan Baker is correct. You are to use medical skin markers. There are pens you can get from the Surgery OR and the skin marking solution that you mix to activate that can be charged to the patient from your hosp. pharmacy. I would assist in many perforator studies and the marks stay that are applied after a vigorous surgical prep scrub.

By the time the skin is cleaned and preped there is just enough marking left to act as a guide. I have never seen tattooing in 25 years of marking varicose veins and perforators in this way.

I heard there was something referred to as tattooing and it was not

considered medically wise or safe to use ink and dye that can mark the skin

over what will become a surgery site unless it is biologically safe.

Is this valid or does it not matter?

Joan
