if you are determined to go BC, it might be safest to sign up with a professional tour...they know the BC well and have better avi training than anyone I know from the east.

We used http://www.exum.ofutah.com/backcountry.htm last time we went BC with Bruce Shenker and co.

A guy has to know his limitations, and without the requisite avi knowledge and training I mostly stay out of the BC until later in the season when the current squirrelly snowpack gets more stable. Should you opt for lift-served, though, just let me know.

The snowstorm is coming through and I finally have a business trip to Salt Lake! I'll be coming in with my girlfriend on the 10th, and skiing for the long weekend before earning my keep. It's been 5 years since I moved out of town, but I knew more about the mountain biking than the backcountry skiing. We will be bringing all our gear - any SLC plaid up for a tour?
