i've been snowboarding for 11 years and i recently "picked up" tele-ing. frankly
because i'm jealous of their freedom of movement. they can basically go
anywhere w/o taking their skis off. now, i've been snowboarding in the
backcountry long enough where i can keep up with (and more often leave in
the dust) the best tele-ers whether they're skining up, skating in the flats,
poking around on a ridge or whatever. i would never trade in my board
entirely, and eventually i'll get a split board because skining up is way easier
than booting. but i think teles are the only cool thing about skiing, second
maybe to "ski bunnies". and it is fun to learn something new and challenge
yourself. alpine skiing just looks too ridgid and jerky compared to the flowing
movements of snowboarding and tele skiing. AT setups just seem to be the
easy way out of learning to tele and i think AT dudes are just as jealous as i
am of teles but they won't admit it.
