I believe it was due to a change in file permissions for the enclosing folder; as a result I think we are shifting to using sharepoint to do file sharing, which will definitely be better in the end any ways.

So -- something somewhere is redirecting that request back to itself. Check out your DirectoryIndex setting..  Maybe someone modified your default page?

You can troubleshoot problems like this pretty well with the Live HTTP Headers add-on for Firefox.
