The American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air
Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) supports a research program every year. ASHRAE
is an international organization of over 50,000 Mechanical Engineers. Last
year over $3,000,000 was raised be members to support research into new heating
and cooling technologies, air quality and increased efficiency. I am the
local ASHRAE chapter Research Chair and am tasked with raising money locally
for ASHRAE Research. 100% of funds donated are used for funding research
projects. Administrative expenses are covered by other means. ASHRAE
is an IRS recognized non-profit and all donations are 100% tax exempt.
ASHRAE Research has over 9 Million
dollars in active research projects being conducted, many over multiple years.

. Each
year ASHRAE members and companies raise over 3 Million dollars to fund the next
years projects. Just a few current research projects include:
Projects to measure and improve the Indoor
Air Quality on airplanes.
Projects to increase Heating,
Ventilation and Air Conditioning Equipment efficiency.
Projects to quantify the effect
better IAQ and comfort levels in schools has on children's test scores and
learning. (One of the reasons LEED for Schools is so important)
Projects to determine ways to make
refrigerators keep food fresh for longer times.
Projects to determine Thermal Energy
Storage Design for Emergency Cooling
This year there are multiple options
for donations.
1. Write a check made out to
ASHRAE Research, let me know, and I'll come and pick it up. Then I'll
send in all the checks at the end of the month in one batch.
2. Write a check and send it
directly to ASHRAE Research,
3. A new method this year is a
recurring transaction on your credit card. For instance, you could donate
$10 per month for 10 months to make the individual Honor Roll donation level.
