I have a forensic psychiatrist on staff who claims there is an existing California law that physicians must keep written records of patients subscription history (drug, dosage, date(s) given, etc.) I have checked many of the California codes and done lit searches online to no avail. He does not mean the law regarding the prescription of controlled substances, which is in fact part of the CA Health & Safety Code (Div 10, Ch 4, Art 2, Sec 11190). Nor the law requiring the retention of the "prescription book" (sec 11168 which has apparently been repealed). He thought it would be related to CA Business & Professions code on keeping adequate records (Div 2, Ch 5, Art 12, Sec 2236), but I see nothing specific to medication records in that division. Any help is appreciated. I have been advised to visit the local law library, but am hoping someone here will have knowledge of this law.
