you might try dale doucette off route 100 south of wilmington. his house may not be designed as such, but it's close. Has straw walls (about R-30 to R-50), bank of southern-facing windows, few on the other 3 sides. heat absorbing tile floors. doesn't use much power: off-grid 3 kw solar and wind is all he has. (maybe propane for hot water and cooking. not sure).
