VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Position Title:                        College of Nursing (CON) Librarian

University Rank:        Assistant/Associate In (professional but non-tenure accruing)

Classification:            Faculty, 12-month, 20 hr/wk part-time Non-Tenure-Accruing
                                    (with possibility of becoming full-time)

Reports to:                           Director, Health Science Center Library
and
                                                Assoc. Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, College of Nursing

Overview:
The Health Science Center Library is situated in the University of Florida Health Science Center complex on the main campus in Gainesville. The library serves 6 colleges (Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, and Public Health and Health Professions).

The College of Nursing seeks an organized, well-informed librarian to collaborate with the faculty and staff to enhance the use and awareness of information resources for teaching, research and service of the College of Nursing.  This librarian will provide library-related educational activities, instructional resources, and guest lectures to the students, faculty and staff of the College of Nursing. The position will also hold responsibility for providing special assistance to College of Nursing faculty in the areas of course development, research, information acquisition, faculty development, and strategic planning. The CON Librarian will also be expected to provide library services to nursing patrons:  instruction, mediated searching, email reference questions, collection management, special projects and on rare occasions, reference desk substitution. The CON Librarian will serve as a member of relevant committees such as Liaison Forum/Curriculum Committee and the Health Science Center Library Advisory Committee.

Responsibilities:

Instruction:
*       Design specialized educational materials for nursing students
*       Assist College of Nursing faculty in integrating information literacy, informatics and evidence based practice into their coursework
*       Serve as a guest lecturer for the College of Nursing with all levels of students (BSN, MSN, DNP and PhD) regarding information technologies and informatics
*       Identify relevant web sites for nursing specialty areas and disseminate to faculty and students
*       Provide in-depth information gathering and consulting on:
*       Evidence based practice
*       Resources for grant proposals
*       Copyright clearance and compliance

Collection Management:
*       Select material for the general collection and reference collection in Nursing
*       Maintain nursing resources on the HSCL web page (currently Libguides)

Professional Service:
*       Special assignments and projects as assigned
*       Serve as a member of the HSCL Liaison Forum/Curriculum Committee and HSC Library Advisory Committee
*       Participate in professional development  activities and associations
*       Serve on committees as elected or appointed

Reference Service for Nursing:
*       Search and instruct others in searching databases
*       Develop and maintain subject bibliographies and resources
*       Respond to reference enquiries in all formats

Required Qualifications:
*       Master's degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited library school
*       Minimum of 2 years professional experience in an academic health science or hospital library
*       Teaching and presentation skills
*       Experience in database and Internet searching
*       Flexibility to accept and manage change
*       Ability to manage multiple priorities
*       Ability to communicate and work with all levels of staff

Desired Qualifications:
*       Experience using health-related information resources
*       Familiarity with teaching methods such as active, competency-based and problem-based learning
*       Science, health care and/or nursing experience
*       Knowledge of and interest in emerging technologies

Salary:  $27,500 maximum. This is a half-time (20 hrs. per week), non-tenure track position.
