Advanced planning also resulted in a successful Inauguration Day
Celebration at St. Albans City School. We sent out websites with lots
of Inauguration Learning Activities to teachers and set up a Voice
Thread as a debriefing activity.

Craig, our network administrator calculated the amount of video
streams our system could handle and we sent our messages asking people
not to start individual streams. We set up specific large group
viewing areas with projectors and speakers in the gym and library,
including a wireless stream in the cafeteria for those who had lunch
during this historic moment. (It was the most exciting lunchtime I've
witnessed, and the wireless held up as well as the places where we had
Ethernet)

Our librarian/media specialists tested every classroom connection in
an outdated cable system which had not been used in years to locate
any live connections and wheeled available television in those half a
dozen classroom that still had working cable and they became host to
neighboring classes.

In one location where the stream became too choppy, someone quickly
turned on a radio to provide seamless sound to the choppy video.

Spontaneous cheers and singing broke out in several locations. Made
us feel like a community.

When we logged into our VoiceThread to let students add comments to
prompts we had set up there were already 50 comments from students
from other schools. Some classes are still adding comments and audio
comments. Your students are welcomed to, also.
