According to the IEBlog

gust-2009.aspx>  [1], Microsoft will be releasing Internet Explorer 8 to the
Windows Server Update Service on August 29. If you have a computer that is
part of Campus Active Directory Services, and you haven't already installed
IE8, it will be installed on your computer as part of the automatic update
process.

 

IE8 has been installed via Automatic Updates for system not joined to the
Campus domain since March. Campus Domain users can also install IE8 via
direct <http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/>  download [2],
or by manually running updates against Microsoft Update [3].
