Hello Kayak Club! I hope that this email finds you all well. I discovered recently that it is already August and that we go back to school in less than four weeks! HOLY JEEZ!, and that there is a lot to do. Firstly I am psyched to hear that there has been a TON of paddling going on back in VT and our brand new boats are getting to some good use. I hope everyone back in VT has had a blast of a summer! To finish off the summer, Ben Guttridge is wanting to plan a TRIP TO THE OTTAWA RIVER over the last week of break and its sounds like it would be incredible. If you are interested, get in touch with him at [log in to unmask] Looking to the upcoming semester: FOR ALL MEMBERS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN LEADING TRIPS: This year all of those who would like to lead trips need to have an ACA instructor certification. The class will take place over the course of two weekends, with a lesson on friday and two days on the water on saturday and sunday. This is an awesome idea for anyone who wants to be involved in the club or is thinking about getting a job on the water. The cost of the course is $400, however outdoor programs will reimburse participants as follows. rising sophomores 2/3 rising juniors 1/2 rising seniors 1/3 I will also get as much professional development money as I can out of the SGA which should further reduce the cost. If you are interested, please let me know as soon as possible. We can only take eight club members so GET IN TOUCH SOON! And here, to finish off, are some important club events and dates to keep in mind as you get pumped for the upcoming semester: 8/31: first day of classes (skipped to go kayaking) 9/11-9-13: ACA course (possibility #1) 9/18-9/20: ACA course (possibility #2) 9/26: West Fest (Jamaica Vermont) 10/2-10/4: Whitewater Symposium (Zoar Outdoor/ Deerfield River MA) 10/9-10/11: Long weekend (Yearly Deerfield River Trip, could go to Maine...?) 10/16-10/18: Moose Fest (moose river, Old Forge NY) ITS GONNA BE A BUSY FALL!
