We have used Excel workbooks for several years, but I hope to shift to Google Docs in January when I have some staff training time. The issue has been restricting editing to staff only, which has only been viable (I think) since the addition of Groups to GAE a week or two ago. We only allow people to schedule six weeks in advance, and each piece of equipment has it's own sheet. We archive the old sheets for analysis, which will take a bit longer in Google. I explored other types of scheduling systems, but with our current system teachers have the benefit of seeing an entire week at a time and who/where else the equipment is being used. This is particularly important when scheduling portable labs, where "back to back" scheduling doesn't work.
