At CVU, we do use the resource feature in Google calendar for our labs and carts.   Each lab and cart (resource) has a  calendar, which teachers have added to their own calendars.  The calendars are set to auto-accept appointments (unless there is a conflict).  There has been some confusion about knowing when a resource has been added to an appointment, but Google is improving this feature (if you have a Google calendar, check out "Sneak Preview" when you go to create an event).

While I don't use it, google calendar does have a resource feature (set up by the admins):

Basically people would create the event in their own calendar, and in the event details instead of a guest they choose room.    The idea is that you can set up people to accept invitations, block off time, ...   preventing overlaps and user error.

I chose not to use it and go with a standard shared calendar.   I figured the teachers were trustworthy enough to not make changes to other peoples events and it was a great way for them to learn to use the calendar.   No matter the choice, choose a day you can give them all training at once, and toss out the paper book in front of everyone.

Hi School IT:
Are any of your schools scheduling the use of mobile carts, labs or other equipment electronically- via Google Calendar? GroupWise Calendar? other?
What's working? What isn't?
Is there anything that has revolutionized the scheduling process that you can share?
Thanks so much!
