students taking computer science classes.

Sounds like several school offer programming to students as independent
studies.  What high schools offer  Intro to Computer Programming and AP
Computer Science as a formal class with a teacher?

 

Here are a couple of quotes.

"If they stick with it, they will be part of an elite group that is
exceedingly employable, economists say, even in a recession"

"That has economic implications. "If you look at history, the nations
with economic superiority are building the tools the rest of the world
