Today (1/7/2010) at 10 a.m. a Northern Shrike was perched in a deciduous tree just south of the intersection of Knowles Flat Road and Route 118 in Eden, Vermont. This is the first shrike I've seen in this area in my 21 years of commuting this particular section of highway. (I keep looking for last year's NHO, though I don't expect to see it.... That's probably why I saw the shrike today, though. I've been scanning the tree tops more carefully than usual....)
