The University of
Vermont Office of the President |
Dear
Faculty, Staff, and Students of the University of Vermont
We
are pleased to transmit to you the official letter from the New England
Association of Schools and Colleges on our accreditation. In short, the
University has been reaccredited for ten years with a provision for a
standard
fifth-year interim report in which we are asked to update our progress
in
several areas of special interest to NEASC.
These include two major initiatives currently under way: general education and the Transdisciplinary
Research Initiative. NEASC is particularly interested to know, five
years from
now, how we are assessing student learning outcomes in general
education, and
how successful we have been in "identifying areas of academic strength
for
targeted investment, with the goal of moving the University to greater
national
prominence".
We
hope you agree that these directives, which match up well against our
own
goals, point us in a promising direction for the continued advance of
the University. Reaching this milestone
reflects the
collective outstanding work of the entire UVM community, and we look
forward to
working with you to realize our vision of being among the premier small
research universities in the nation.
As
always, your thoughts, ideas and concerns are welcome.
