Don't even go there. That's the most exquisite rationalization for charging fees for information - and often high fees, since the corollary is that which costs more is more valued.
The truth is that people value that which improves their lives, including many things we would not (at least not most of us) even think of charging for, such as friendship, companionship, empathy, physical intimacy and sex, mentoring a child, assisting the elderly or comforting the dying.
The measure of a healthy and sustainable society is one in which the most valuable services are part of a gift economy and the rest is bartered.

people value more what costs them money - I charge for a consultation because the money makes the client pays attention to what I say - same with seminars

Who: These workshops are intended for: - Builders who want to encourage their clients to include solar hot water in their building and remodeling projects;
- Plumbing and heating contractors who want to learn the specifics of solar installations for domestic hot water and heating systems; - Anyone interested in expanding their knowledge of a sophisticated renewable technology.
Cost: $285 One Day, $450 Two Days, $45 Discount to BSR Members. $40 Early Registration Discount (2 weeks prior to workshop date) Contact BSR for information on plumber discounts.
Details: This course is recognized by REV. Licensed plumbers who attend a 8hr workshop will be eligible to apply for "REV Solar Thermal Provisional partnership". Full Solar Partnership is awarded to Provisional Partners who complete a dw systems with REV oversight. Non-licensed plumbing professionals attending both workshops will receive 16 hours of credit towards eligibility. Solar Thermal Partnership is required to access Vermont renewable energy incentives.
