Situation in which an inpatient during hospital stay is not satisfied with
their attending's care and wants to change to another doctor. Can anyone
share their hospital's policy or procedure for this kind of transition? Is
the burden on the patient / family to find and arrange the switch, what is
the responsibility of the hospital / medical staff for the handoff, etc. I
can find plenty in the literature on how a physician may dismiss a patient,
just not the other way around, especially in the hospital setting. There is
no issue of patient competence / autonomy, nor any issues of discrimination
/ racial intolerance, etc., just how to smoothly manage a transition of this
type while the patient is under the hospital's care. Thanks!!
