   THE UVM DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE PRESENTS ITS ANNUAL HOLIDAY  
TRADITION. Dec. 4 and 5 at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Royall

Do You Know Your Numbers?

   COME GET A BODY COMPOSITION ANALYSIS AND FIND OUT A VARIETY OF  
FACTS ABOUT YOUR BODY, including your metabolic age, body mass index,  
predicted resting metabolic rate, muscle mass and bone mass. Plus,  
students in the UVM Exercise and Movement Science Student Association  
(EXMSSA) will be there to help you understand these values and how you  
can improve them. We will be using a state-of-the-art bioelectrical  
impedance machine to perform the analysis, but it's as quick and easy  
as standing on a scale!

   These tests have a $75 value, but you can get them done here for  
just $10. Walk-in, no appointments please. Nov. 29 and Dec. 1, 2-8

Campus Recreation

   BE SURE TO NOTE OUR CHANGE IN HOURS FOR WINTER BREAK. The building  
will be open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. but the fitness

Celebrate The Child Campaign

   THE ANNUAL CELEBRATE THE CHILD CAMPAIGN AT THE CATHOLIC CENTER  
BEGINS THIS FRIDAY. Please take a baby bootie from the basket in the  
Catholic Center lounge, purchase the item listed and drop it off under  
the tree at The Catholic Center unwrapped by Dec. 17. The items will  
be distributed to Vermont Catholic Charities, Birthright and Care Net

2010-2011 Clean Energy Fund Call For Ideas

   WANT CLEAN POWER? GET INVOLVED NOW TO HELP SHAPE UVM'S RENEWABLE  
ENERGY FUTURE! UVM's Clean Energy Fund Committee and Office of  
Sustainability are seeking ideas for the 2010-2011 proposal review  
session in response to the challenge: "How can UVM best advance  
renewable energy research, education, and infrastructure on campus?"  
Suggest ideas, comment on others' suggestions, and vote for the best

interventions, war, and the rise of political Islam have stripped

RESEARCH STUDIES:

  Clinical Neuroscience Research Unit Study

   ARE YOU A WOMAN BETWEEN THE AGE OF 18 AND 45 WHO IS NOT TAKING  
HORMONAL BIRTH CONTROL? You may be eligible to participate in a  
research study on hormones and mathematical ability. The study  
involves: functional MRI (fMRI) scans of your brain, and financial

Speech Study

   ARE YOU LEFT-HANDED? OVER 18? INTERESTED IN LEARNING HOW YOUR BRAIN  
PROCESSES LANGUAGE? You may be eligible for a study involving  
cognitive processing of language and its impact on individuals'  
speech. Participants will participate in a short auditory test, a 2-5  
minute interview, and the reading of a short passage aloud.

Participants Needed For Smoking Cessation Research

   THE ANXIETY AND HEALTH RESEARCH LAB AT UVM IS LOOKING FOR  
INDIVIDUALS, 18-65 YEARS OF AGE, who are daily cigarette smokers and  
who are motivated to quit smoking. Eligible participants will receive  
free cognitive behavioral group treatment and nicotine replacement and  
will be compensated for their time.

   The goal of this federally funded research study is to investigate  
whether the effectiveness of current standard smoking cessation  
treatment can be enhanced by adding a wellness or exercise intervention.

Chronic Pain Research Study

   DO YOU SUFFER FROM CHRONIC BACK PAIN? You may be eligible to  
participate in a research study involving: group therapy or chronic  
pain education, free of charge; functional MRI (fMRI) scans of the  
brain; financial compensation for participation. If you are  
interested, you need to have current back pain for 6 months or longer;  
be age 18 or older; be right-handed. Information: (802) 847-8241.

Older Subjects Needed For Muscle Research

   ARE YOU A HEALTHY, NON-SMOKER BETWEEN 65 AND 75 YEARS OLD AND NOT  
EXERCISING HEAVILY? INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING IN RESEARCH STUDYING  
THE HEALTH OF YOUR MUSCLES AND HOW AGING AFFECTS MUSCLE PERFORMANCE?  
For your participation in this UVM study, you will receive a free  
medical screening, muscle strength testing, heart health measure and

Research Study: Mechanisms Of Specific Trunk Exercises In Low Back Pain

   ARE YOU BETWEEN 21-55 YEARS OLD AND SUFFER FROM CHRONIC, LOW BACK  
PAIN? You may be eligible to participate in a research study,  
conducted by the University of Vermont, that includes the following  
benefits:

   * Pre and post-treatment testing sessions at the UVM Human Motion  
Analysis Lab (includes a free physical therapy evaluation)
   * Six physical therapy treatment sessions with a physical therapist  
at no charge to you or your health insurance
   * $110 total compensation upon completion of study
   * Six,12, 24 month questionnaires
   * You may be randomly selected to participate in an exercise  
adherence portion of the study

   The purpose of this study, conducted by Sharon M. Henry, professor  
and associate dean of research at the University of Vermont, College  
of Nursing and Health Sciences, is to examine whether or not matching  
treatment to your specific symptoms is better at decreasing your pain  
and increasing your function than a non-specific
