Richford has six full time employees that plow all the roads in the town.  We hire seasonal part time help to run our pickup which plows all our parking lots, including schools which is a total of about 9 parking lots.  Part time employees also help out on the big trucks if we have large snow storms where the trucks need to run round the clock.  Yes, unfortunately this does hurt on our unemployment experience rating, but it is part of the cost of doing business.

Subject: Winter plowing

I’m wondering how other Towns handle plowing during the winter – do you hire on extra “seasonal” people to help plow or do you “make do” with what you have?  If you hire “seasonal” employees, have you had the problem of them in turn filing for unemployment once it stops snowing?  Thanks.
