Tht's what bothers me:  you work at the behest the manager and/or the Selectboard.  I wonder how comfortable you'd feel going against their wishes if you had a controlling board or manager.  If you are voted in , you are only obligated to do the best job you can for the voters and citizens.  If they don't like the job you're doing, you out in 3 years.

In the City of Rutland, the Charter provides for the Clerk to be appointed by the mayor and approved by the Board of Aldermen

Can a town with a Charter choose to have the Town Clerk appointed by the manager or selectboard rather than be elected?

If the answer is yes, which town (s) have done this.
