Windsor got rid of it years ago.  We voted at town meeting to phase it out over a period of 5 years.

We eliminated it all at once.  I believe it went up for a vote.  It was so hard for the listers to determine who had what, especially when some of them would not return the inventory forms and the income we got out of it was not worth it.

Did you eliminate it all at once or gradually?

Burke eliminated the personal property tax several years ago because it is such an unfair tax.

Subject: Business Personal Property Tax

Lyndon is thinking about asking the voters to repeal the business personal property tax by eliminating a portion of reported value, say the first $75,000 of value.  Have any other towns done this and does anyone have sample article wording?
