Driving by Pond #10 in Calais this morning we saw the resident adult loons
about 100 yds from each other - each one accompanied by a chick. They were
making a racket and I soon saw why:

an eagle (not fully mature) flying overhead, landing in a white pine tree.
A friend who happened by tells me that last year an eagle harvested one of
the loon chicks.

Two great blue herons were enjoying a beach and some grasses on the north
end of the pond.
