Cool Jeanne! Another possibility to consider is Ringed Turtle-Dove. Anyone get a look at the undertail coverts (white in the turtle-dove, gray in the collared dove) or the contrast between the flight feathers and the rest of the wing (more contrast in collared)?
If the bird is still around, I'd love to take a look!

Jeremy Silansky of Montpelier, Vermont got this photo of a Eurasian 
Collared Dover the other day.
This would seem, based on a quick search of EBird, to be a very rare 
sighting for Vermont.
